HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech improved to 17-1 on the season with a 74-61 victory over Lake Superior State in GLIAC women's basketball today at the SDC Gym. Key 3-pointers from Jillian Ritchie turned a four-point margin into a double-digit gap down the stretch to help the Huskies win their eighth straight game.

Despite being down 10 eight minutes into the second half, the Lakers battled back within 55-51 at the 7:08 mark. Kelli Guy and Morgan Anderson then both had driving baskets for an eight-point margin. After an LSSU bucket, Ritchie heated up. The senior nailed back-to-back treys and a third two minutes later to make the score 72-58.

The Black and Gold allowed just three points the rest of the way.

"Lake Superior State's a good team," said Tech coach Kim Cameron. "I'm happy to get away with a win.

"Our defense was much better after the first 10 minutes. We just needed to get a little tougher. Offensively, we got the job done again when it counted."

Lake Superior State made 10 of its first 15 field goals and led by as many as eight in the opening half. The visitors held onto a 31-29 lead with 5:44 to play in the half.

Tech shut the door on the Lakers the rest of the half, getting a pair of baskets from Emily Harrison and making four straight foul shots to go into halftime up 36-31.

Ritchie finished with 12 points—all on 3-pointers. Danielle Blake was the game's high scorer, however. The junior forward  posted 19 points plus a game-high nine rebounds. Guy (10 points) and Harrison (10) also reached double figures.

The Huskies shot a season-best 53.1 percent from the floor and made 18-of-23 free throws. LSSU shot 42 percent, but held a 33-27 rebounding advantage.

The Lakers were led by Kandace Crittendon's 16 points and six rebounds.

Michigan Tech concludes it's three-game home stand on Monday (Feb. 2) with a 5:30 p.m. showdown vs. arch rival Northern Michigan. The game will be televised live across the Upper Peninsula on Fox UP. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
