THIS WEEK'S NOTES
STAT OF THE WEEK
14 • Steals for Michigan Tech in its 69-61 win at Saginaw Valley State last Saturday (Jan. 24). It was a new season high for the Huskies.
DEFENSE CONTINUES TO SLOW DOWN OPPONENTS
Michigan Tech owns the GLIAC's best scoring defense, holding opponents to an average of 56.9 points per game. The Huskies held Hillsdale to 57 points last Thursday (Jan. 22) while limiting Preseason GLIAC Player of the Year Megan Fogt to just 10 points (zero in the second half). Then Saturday (Jan. 24) they gave up 61 to Saginaw Valley State despite the Cardinals shooting 56 percent from the field. Only once have the Black and Gold surrendered more than 70 in a game—that was in Tech's lone loss of the season (80-66 at Tiffin).
700 CLUB
The Michigan Tech women's basketball program looks to join the 700-win club this week. The Huskies boast an all-time record of 699-400 (.635) after posting 106 wins over the last five seasons under coach Kim Cameron. Since the start of 1988-89, Tech has put together 27 consecutive winning seasons with 12 GLIAC titles and four NCAA Regional titles.
ALL FIVE STARTERS AVERAGING DOUBLE DIGITS
Michigan Tech has five players averaging more than 10 points per game this season with none at 12 or more. The Huskies have not had the same player lead the team in scoring in back-to-back games all season, with six different players turning in game-high scoring honors. Danielle Blake has the team's best scoring average at 11.8. Morgan Anderson is next at 11.4 per game. Brenna Heise (10.6), Kelli Guy (10.1) and Jillian Ritchie (10.1) are the others. Of the five, only Anderson hasn't had a 20-point game this season.
HUSKIES HOST NEXT THREE AT HOME
Michigan Tech is 63-6 (.913) at home since Kim Cameron took over as head coach at Tech. The Black and Gold are 8-0 at the SDC Gym this season with two wins over top-10 ranked teams (65-54 vs. No. 10 Concordia-St. Paul Nov. 21 and 68-55 over No. 8 Wayne State Dec. 13). The Huskies have five of their 10 remaining games in Houghton including each of the next three.

SERIES HISTORY VS. NORTHWOOD
Michigan Tech owns a 48-16 all-time record vs. Northwood dating back to the series start in 1981. The Huskies have lost just three times in the last 49 matchups vs. the Timberwolves, but one of those was the most recent meeting, an 80-58 decision in Midland, Mich., last Feb. 20.
SERIES HISTORY VS. LAKE SUPERIOR STATE
Michigan Tech leads the all-time series with LSSU by a 52-37 count. The Huskies have won 13 consecutive games vs. the Lakers.
COACH CAMERON
Kim Cameron has coached the Huskies to a 106-29 record (.785) during her five seasons leading the Tech women's basketball program. She is the first Division II head coach in Tech history to lead a team to a national title game appearance (2011) and was the GLIAC and Midwest Region Coach of the Year in 2011. Cameron-coached teams have claimed two GLIAC North Division titles and advanced to the NCAA Tournament twice.
NEXT UP
Michigan Tech remains at home to face arch rival Northern Michigan on Monday (Feb. 2). The game will be televised live on FOX UP.
