Tech Women's Basketball Picked Second in GLIAC Preseason Poll

BAY CITY, Mich. — The Michigan Tech women's basketball team was selected to finish second in the GLIAC North Division in the 2014-15 GLIAC Preseason Poll which was released by the league today. Danielle Blake and Mackenzie Perttu both earned Preseason All-GLIAC honors as well.

Northern Michigan was picked to win the North Division with 124 points and 13 first-place votes. Tech finished with 111 poll points and three first-place nods. The U.P. rivals were followed by Grand Valley State (77), Saginaw Valley State (73), Hillsdale (67), Northwood (60), Ferris State (46) and Lake Superior State (18).

Wayne State, which swapped places with Hillsdale in going from the North Division to the South, was selected to win the South. Ashland (119), Malone (83), Findlay (81), Ohio Dominican (62), Walsh (52), Tiffin (34) and Lake Erie (24) were spots 2-8.

Tech is coming off a 19-9 season in 2013-14 in which it tied for second in the GLIAC North Division and advanced to the semifinal of the GLIAC Tournament.

Blake averaged 13.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in 2013-14 en route to All-GLIAC First Team and GLIAC All-Tournament Team honors. Perttu led the Huskies in scoring a year ago with a 15.4 average. She was also an All-GLIAC First Team pick.

Hillsdale's Megan Fogt was named the Preseason GLIAC Player of the Year.
