HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech used a 17-5 run to end the game and earn a 65-53 victory over Ohio Dominican today at the SDC Gym. The Huskies, who blocked a season-high 11 shots and held the Panthers to 28 percent field goal shooting, improved to 5-0 in GLIAC play and 7-2 overall.

"Defense is going to carry us this season," said head coach Kim Cameron. "To hold them to five points in the final seven minutes really shows this team's grit and toughness."

Despite Tech outshooting the visitors 42 percent to 27 in the first half, ODU (4-5, 1-4 GLIAC) hung around. The Panthers grabbed nine offensive rebounds in the opening 20 minutes and pulled within three (51-48) with 7:11 to go.

The Black and Gold took control as Mackenzie Perttu buried a 3-pointer from the left side and Danielle Blake took the ball hard to the net on consecutive possessions.

Blake's second bucket put the margin at 60-48 with 3:13 to go. Ohio Dominican's next field goal wouldn't come until 1:35 left, breaking a nearly seven-minute drought.

Another Perttu triple with 1:10 to play was the dagger.

The Huskies had balanced scoring with 12 from Perttu and 11 apiece from Blake and Kylie Moxley.

Blake had four of the team's 11 blocks plus team highs in rebounds (nine) and assists (five). She also limited Panther guard Kacee Hockenberry to 12 points (nine below her GLIAC average).

"Dani came up big for us tonight," said Cameron "She played 40 minutes, and her length is really disruptive on the perimeter."

ODU held a 49-42 advantage in rebounds including 17 on the offensive glass. Tech countered with six more field goals on four fewer attempts (39.7 percent).

Michigan Tech will continue GLIAC play Saturday (Jan. 4) with a 1 p.m. tipoff vs. Tiffin.

Notes: Tech has won six consecutive games since a Nov. 23 loss to Minnesota Duluth … The Huskies' previous high for blocks was seven vs. UMD … Tech is 4-0 all-time against Ohio Dominican.
