Women's Basketball Tips Off Season at Radisson Roseville Classic

SEASONS TIPS OFF
The Michigan Tech women's basketball team tips off the regular season this weekend with a pair of games at the Radisson Roseville Classic in St. Paul, Minn. The Huskies play tournament host Concordia- St. Paul on Friday at 8 p.m. and then meet up with Minnesota State Moorhead on Saturday at 4 p.m. in a pair of non-conference games.

TOP 25 BATTLE
Concordia is ranked No. 9 in the USA Today Preseason Top 25 poll after finishing 23-7 a season ago and qualifying for the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies are ranked No. 21 in the poll.

TECH TOP PICK IN GLIAC NORTH DIVISION
NORTH-Michigan Tech was selected as the top team in the North Division in the GLIAC Preseason Poll. Wayne State received eight first place points and was second behind Tech with 167 points. Grand Valley State (143), Ferris State (124) and Saginaw Valley State (85) rounded out the top five in the North. Northern Michigan (70), Northwood (64) and Lake Superior State (34) were ranked in spots six through eight.
SOUTH-Defending national champion Ashland was the top choice in the South Division with 178 points. Findlay (177), Hillsdale (122), Malone (117) and Tiffin (103) were also ranked in the top five of the South. Ohio Dominican (85), Walsh (56) and Lake Erie (26) were picked at the bottom of the division.

COACH CAMERON
Kim Cameron begins her fourth season as the head coach of the Huskies and holds a 71-42 career record. She is the only Tech coach to lead a team to a Division II National Championship Game.

RITCHIE & BLAKE HONORED
Jillian Ritchie was named to the GLIAC preseason first team. She averaged 8.6 points per game last season and was second on the team with 159 rebounds, averaging 5.3 per contest. The junior forward from De Pere, Wis., started all 30 games a season ago and averaged 31 minutes while shooting 45.9 percent from three-point territory.
•Dani Blake was named to the GLIAC preseason second team. The sophomore guard from Midland, Mich., started 14 games last season and scored 115 points. She also had 87 rebounds, 39 assists and 26 blocks while playing 18.6 minutes per game.

LAST SEASON
The Huskies finished 21-9 overall and 17-5 in the GLIAC in 2012-13. Tech earned a share of the North Division title and advanced to the NCAA Midwest Regional semifinal.

FILLED FRONT COURT
Returning forwards Taylor Stippel and Kate Glodowski are both coming off a season where they battled injuries. Stippel, now a senior, started 12 of the 17 games she appeared in and averaged 7.8 points and 3.2 rebounds. Glodowski begins her junior year after redshirting last season. Senior Heather Kessler and junior Emily Harrison bring a lot of height to the center position. Harrison, at 6-4, saw action in 25 games and led the team with 31 blocks while scoring 83 points and grabbing 41 rebounds. Kessler is 6-1 and appeared in 12 games.

NEWCOMERS
Guards Morgan Anderson, Kelli Guy and Brenna Heise make up the freshmen class.

SERIES INFORMATION
Michigan Tech is 3-2 all-time against Concordia-St. Paul with wins in the last two meetings. Tech won 66-52 on Nov. 26, 2011 in the last game in St. Paul and 90-80 in the last season's game at the SDC Gym.

LAST MEETING
Tech defeated Concordia 90-80 in the season-opener last season. The Huskies scored 52 points in the second half and had four players in double figures. Taylor Stippel scored a career-high 22 points. Sam Hoyt had Tech's first triple double in the contest. Tech shot well as a team shooting 48-percent (31-65) from the field, 53-percent (10-19) from deep and 90-percent (18-20) from the charity stripe.

NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE
Tech's only two home non-conference games are against Minnesota Duluth (Nov. 23) and Wisconsin Parkside (Dec. 21).

LOOKING AHEAD
The Huskies host Minnesota Duluth on Nov. 23 at the SDC Gym before beginning GLIAC play on Dec. 5, hosting Malone.
