Bloch Earns GLIAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week

HOUGHTON, Mich. – For the second time in 2019, Michigan Tech track & field student-athlete Liz Bloch was named the GLIAC Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Week for breaking a school record at this past weekend's Hillsdale "GINA" Relays.

Bloch received this week's conference honor for breaking the school record in the 800m run at the Hillsdale "GINA" Relays. The senior runner finished first in the event on Friday with a time of 2:10.36, breaking her original record from the 2018 Long Beach Invitational by 0.64 seconds. Her time in the 800m was also an NCAA provisional qualifying mark, ranking her 15th nationally in the event.

Bloch also won the award for week four of the 2018-19 GLIAC outdoor track & field season after breaking the school record in the 1500m at the Bison Outdoor Classic.

Also receiving GLIAC Track & Field Athlete of the Week recognition is Ellie Jindra and Trevor Bassitt of Ashland, and Cody Stilwell of Ferris State.

Bloch and the Huskies are heading back down to Grand Rapids this week for the 2019 GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Grand Valley State. Bloch was the highlight for the Huskies at last year's conference championships, winning the 1500m run and placing third in the 800m run.
