Huskies Turn in Solid Performances at Hillsdale Gina Relays
HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Michigan Tech men's and women's track and field teams both recorded solid some performances over the weekend at the Hillsdale College Gina Relays. This meet was the final tune up before the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships which start on Wednesday at Grand Valley State.
Jake Jurkowski powered Tech this weekend with a first place finish in the finals of the open Pole Vault. Jurkowski set a new school record in the process by clearing the bar at 4.76m. Jon Ping of Grand Valley State was second at 4.61.
In the women's 5000 Meter Run, Emily Byrd and Emily Vigil both recorded two of the fastest times in program history. Bryd now ranks second in the school record books after hitting the line with a time of 17:48.45, resulting in a 23rd place finish in the standings. Vigil was 29th in the field of 98 runners by covering the distance in 17:57.52, now the third fastest time in the school history.
In the men's 5000 Meter Run, Matthew Pahl was the top finisher for Tech, reaching the line in 14:42.43, good for 21st in the standings which featured competitors from the NCAA Division I level. Hilding Beaudoin earned a top 10 finish for the Huskies in the Discus Throw on Saturday. Beaudoin secured 8th place with a throw of 43.24m in the finals.
