Lane's Season Ends in NCAA Nationals Prelim

ALLENDALE, Mich. — The 2015 Michigan Tech Track and Field season came to an end today as Jani Lane competed in the 1,500 preliminaries today at the NCAA Championship hosted by Grand Valley State.

Lane ran a 4:07.84, 21 seconds off his seed time, and did not advance to the Saturday (May 23) final. The Anchorage, Alaska, native stayed with the lead pack for the first 800 meters of the race, but could not remain there.

"It's disappointing that Jani wasn't able to have his best race on the right day," said Tech coach Joe Haggenmiller. "It just wasn't there for him today.

"It's a great accomplishment to get here, and he's made us proud with everything he's done for the program."

Lane was unable to repeat last year's performance, where he finished seventh in the final and earned All-America honors.

Just one day earlier, the 3.94 student in mechanical engineering earned the NCAA Elite 89 Award for having the highest GPA among all men at the championship.

Lane concluded his Michigan Tech career as the school record holder in the 1,500 meters (3:46.53) and top-10 times at Tech in the 800 and 5,000 meters.
