Lane Selected for NCAA, Named All-Region

HOUGHTON, Mich.Jani Lane of the Michigan Tech track and field team was officially selected for the NCAA Track and Field Championship in the 1500 on Tuesday (May 13). He was also named All-Midwest Region in the event on Monday (May 12) by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

"I'm excited for Jani and proud of his accomplishments to this point," Tech coach Joe Haggenmiller said. "He's worked hard to reach his goals, and a ton of credit goes to our running graduate assistants Tom Scott and Tyler Patterson. Tom is a great 1500 runner himself and has been pushing Jani every single day and even setting the pace at a few of the races."

The championships will be held May 22-24 in Allendale, Mich., at the Grand Valley State Track and Field Stadium. Prelims for the men's 1500 are Thursday, May 22 at 5:10 p.m. with finals set for Saturday, May 24 at 5:35 p.m. Portions of the championships will be streamed live on NCAA.com each day.

Twenty participants will compete in the 1500 at the NCAA Championship. Lane ran the fifth best time in the country with a school record time of 3:46.53. He holds three of the top four times in Tech history in the event.

A total of 754 participants, 377 men and 377 women, were selected by the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee.

Men's All-Region awards went to 646 different student-athletes, who combined for 905 total awards. The top five individuals in each event from each region earned the All-Region distinction. The regions used for this award match those used during the cross country season, and student-athletes must come from USTFCCCA member institutions.
