Race Information

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech Nordic Ski team is prepped and ready to go as they continue the championship portion of their schedule at the 2019 NCAA Central Region Skiing Championships. The Championships, hosted by Michigan Tech, will take place on February 23-24 at the Michigan Tech Recreational Trails.

The Huskies finished second as a team at last weekend's 2019 CCSA Conference Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with Sarah Goble and Amanda Kautzer both finishing third in the 5k Freestyle and the 15k Classic, respectively. For the men, it was Reid Goble and Patrick Acton who finished as the top performers for the Huskies. Goble placed fifth in the 20k Classic and seventh in the 10k Freestyle, and Acton placed fourth in the 10k Freestyle and 11th in the 20k Classic. Tom Bye also put in a good performance at the CCSA Championships by finishing eighth in the 20k and ninth in the 10k.

"Being able to be home to host the 2019 Central Region Skiing Championships is huge for us," says head coach Thomas Smith. "As this is our last qualifying event for NCAA Skiing Championships, we're really going to seek to take advantage of this being on or home course. And we feel nobody knows how to race our own course better than we do."

Saturday's events begin at 9:30 a.m. with the men's 10 Skate followed by the women's 5k Skate race. Both race formats are individual starts. The women's 5k will begin 30 seconds after the final men's skier has crossed the finish line. The women's 15k Classic race will begin Sunday's action at 9 a.m., followed by the men's 20k Classic at 11 a.m., with both races featuring the mass stat race format. The awards presentation at 1 p.m., featuring Sunday's individual and team champions, and the 2019 All-Region teams.
