Huskies gear up for competition Thursday at the NCAA Championships

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo.  – The Michigan Tech Huskies Nordic Ski Team is set for their first competition at the NCAA Skiing Championships in Steamboat Springs, Colo. hosted by the University of Colorado. The Huskies will participate in the classic races Thursday, March 8 followed by the freestyle event Saturday, March 10.

The Tech men's team qualified a full roster of three student-athletes. Gaspard Cuenot, Tom Bye and Reid Goble will be competing for MTU. Junior Cuenot clinched second overall in the All-CCSA rankings with 144 total points and had back-to-back skate race wins this season. Bye, a junior, ranked third All-CCSA and freshman teammate, Goble finished fifth All-CCSA.

On the women's side, Sarah Goble and Amanda Kautzer will be representing Tech. Freshman Goble has cracked the top-10 in every race so far this season and junior Kautzer has been a consistently strong skier for the women's program.

The classic races will be held Thursday beginning with the women's five-kilometer race at 11 a.m. (EST). The men's classic 10-kilometer race will follow at 1 p.m. (EST). The Huskies will have one day of rest between events. The freestyle races will be held on Saturday, March 10. The men kick off the day with a 20-kilometer race at 11 a.m. (EST) with the women's 15-kilometer race following at 1 p.m. (EST).

Two women and four men were named to the All-Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) teams earlier this season. The Huskies took second overall in the men's and women's competition at the CCSA Championships and NCAA Regional Event in February.
