Carolyn Lucca Takes the Podium at Duluth Hilltop Invite

DULUTH, Minn. -- The Michigan Tech Nordic ski teams had an opportunity to compete in another freestyle event today. Due to course complications, they were not able to set a track for the classic race scheduled. The Huskies had four members of the women's team competing, and one male alumni for the men's team.

Carolyn Lucca had a phenomenal race today in her hometown, taking 3rd place on the podium for the Huskies. In a field of 65 female racers, Lucca charged across the line at a time of 28:00. Anna Kubek had a strong performance as well, taking 9th place at a time of 28:59. Following the junior Kubek, Erin Lipp (28th, 30:29) and Ruth Oppliger (33rd, 30:52).

"Our women racers got after it today. I can tell Carolyn has fun racing on this course." said head coach Joe Haggenmiller. "Anna Kubek had a top 10 today, so that was great to see. Ruth and Erin competed hard today, too."

Kyle Hanson, now a student manager for the Huskies and a former alumni had a memorable race today. He also secured a spot on the podium in 3rd place, finishing the men's 10K with a time of 25:12.

"Overall the racers who stayed behind had a pretty productive and positive day. Now we will look forward to getting back after it at the CCSA Championships at home." said Haggenmiller.

The Huskies host the CCSA Distance Championships at home this weekend Saturday and Sunday, February 4-5.
