Nordic Ski Team Hosts Training Session For Copper Country Ski Tigers

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Members of Michigan Tech's Nordic skiing teams participated in a community engagement event last Saturday (Jan. 14) when they hosted the Ski Tigers Development Team, a local youth skiing club, at the Nordic Training Center.

Tech's skiers devoted their Saturday afternoon to guide the Ski Tiger's afternoon lessons. While the Ski Tigers consist of ages 5-18, the Huskies worked primarily with elementary age children to develop basic skills such as going up and down small hills, while more mature Ski Tigers focused on agility courses.

The Copper Country Ski Tigers originated in the early 1990's and thrives off of the passion from a group of volunteers who wanted to grow the ski community for the area's youth.

Tech Head Coach Joe Haggenmiller said, "It's important for our team to give back to the community. It's also beneficial for the young kids to see where skiing can take them at the NCAA level."

Michigan Tech had last weekend off of competition, and will travel to Cable, Wis. to compete at the Telemark Central Super Series. The races will take place Saturday and Sunday, January 21-22.
