Five Huskies in Top Seven at Wirth Park

MINNEAPOLIS — Michigan Tech had five athletes place in the top seven during today's free style races at the Mayors Cross Country Challenge at Wirth Park. The Huskies men placed second of six teams while the women were third of seven teams.

Gaspard Cuenot bounced back from a tough day yesterday to take fourth in the men's 10-kilometer race. He skied a time of 20:48. Teammate Didrik Fjeld Elset was only seven seconds back for a fifth place result. Kyle Hanson finished in seventh place in 21:09.

Andrea Lee paced the women's team again with a 15:15 clocking on the 5K loop. She took sixth place. Lisa Konig was right on her heels in seventh with a 15:22 time. Sonja Hedblom rounded out scoring in 15th place with a 15:52.

"I think we nailed the wax pretty well today, which gave the athletes a great chance to compete," said Tech coach Joe Haggenmiller. "It was awesome to see three guys in the top seven. On the women's side, Andrea had another really steady day, and Lisa probably had her best result as a collegiate skier.

"The conditions were a little warmer today, which made for good, fair racing on a well-prepared track."

Michigan Tech will ski again next weekend at the NCAA Central Regional in Marquette.
