Skiers Open Weekend at Wirth Park

MINNEAPOLIS — Michigan Tech opened its weekend at the Mayors Cross Country Challenge at Wirth Park with the men taking third of six teams and the women placing fourth of seven.

Thomas Kendrick had the best performance by a Husky with a fourth-place result in the men's 15-kilometer classic. He skied a time of 37:55. Kyle Hanson posted a time of 38:23 for 12 place. Didrik Fjeld Elset was the Huskies' third scorer in 15th position in 38:53.

The women's team was led by Andrea Lee, who placed eighth. She clocked in at 27:08 on the 10K course. Lisa Konig was 16th in 27:54. Sarah Wade and Carolyn Lucca were 22nd and 23rd with times of 29:00 and 29:09, respectively.

"It was bitter cold today, and that certainly affected everybody," said Tech coach Joe Haggenmiller. "Our guys skied pretty darn well with Kendrick having his best race as a college athlete. The women battled hard, but had a tough day."

Michigan Tech will close out the weekend tomorrow with freestyle races.
