Tech Skiers Host Local Youth for Training Session

HOUGHTON, Mich. — Members of Michigan Tech's Nordic skiing team participated in a community engagement event last week when they hosted the Ski Tigers Development Team, a local youth skiing club, at the Nordic Training Center.

Tech skiers coached the youth through an agility course, did a speed play relay race and worked in a small groups on double poling. Five Huskies skiers and 12 youth participated in the event.

"It was a good opportunity for our athletes to take time during Winter Carnival to work with youth in our community," said Tech Nordic skiing coach Joe Haggenmiller. "They taught the kids some of the techniques we use at the NCAA level. I think the youth enjoyed spending time with our athletes, and I know our athletes really enjoyed the experience as well."

Michigan Tech had last weekend off of competition, and will return to action in the Twin Cities this weekend at the Wirth Super Tour event at Wirth Park. Races are set for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 13-14.
