Skiers Compete at Telemark

CABLE, Wis. — The Michigan Tech Nordic skiing teams raced for the first time since hosting the U.S. National Championships at the Nordic Training Center Jan. 3-9. Today, the Huskies competed in the classic races at Telemark Resort.

Gaspard Cuenot had the Huskies' top result with a seventh-place finish among 125 entries in the men's 10-kilometer event. Cuenot completed the course in 27:50. Kyle Hanson was 15th in a time of 28:24 while Thomas Kendrick was next at 28:50 in 19th position.

For the women, Andrea Lee placed 10th overall and ninth among collegiate skiers on a 5K course. She skied a 16:50 time to finish in the top 10 of a 131-skier field. Lisa Konig was 15th among college competitors with a 17:31 time. Sonja Hedblom was 18th in 17:46.

"We were a little bit off today," said Tech coach Joe Haggenmiller. "We may have trained too hard since the U.S. Nationals to be ready to go.

"Gaspard had a good result despite not feeling his best, and Andrea also put in a good effort. We'll look to bounce back tomorrow."

Tech will wrap up the weekend at Telemark tomorrow with freestyle races.
