Huskies Wrap Up U.S. Skiing Nationals

Freestyle Sprint Results: Qualifier | Quarterfinals | Semifinals | Finals

HOUGHTON, Mich. — The U.S. Cross Country Skiing Championships host at the Michigan Tech Nordic Training Center concluded today with freestyle sprints. Two Huskies—Deedra Irwin and Alice Flanders—qualified for the senior heats.

Irwin and Flanders qualified two-tenths of a second apart from each other. Irwin completed the 1.5-kilometer course in 4:40.11 in 23rd position while Flanders turned in a 4:40.33 one spot back.

Both athletes finished fourth in their quarterfinal heat and did not advance to the semifinals.

Carolyn Lucca earned a spot in the women's junior heats. She finished third in her quarterfinal heat and fifth in her semifinal.

"It was another exciting day of racing," said Tech coach Joe Haggenmiller. "We're happy to get two ladies into the heats again. It just continued the success that we had all week.

"I'd like to again give a huge thank you our staff and the many volunteers that made this week a success. I heard from many of the other coaches and athletes about how well the event was run, and that's a testament to the hard work of a lot of folks."

Michigan Tech will now head to Telemark, Wis., for races Jan. 17-18.
