Wildcat Open Day 2 Results

ISHPEMING, Mich. — The Michigan Tech Nordic skiing teams wrapped up competition at the Wildcat Open at Al Quaal Recreation Area with classic races today.

Kyle Hanson led the men's squad with a sixth-place finish. He completed the 15-kilometer course in 42:42, just 11 seconds out of fourth place. Thomas Bye (43:32) and Thomas Kendrick (44:53) were the next two Huskies across in 10th and 11th position, respectively.

Ulrika Axelsson and Deedra Irwin were Tech's top two female finishers. Axelsson covered the 10-kilometer course in 34:41—good for ninth place. Irwin was 10th in 34:45. Alice Flanders was the third Husky across the line at 35:07 (13th).

"This was a tough weekend for us," said Tech coach Joe Haggenmiller. "We might be a bit stressed with academics and finals coming up this week. These are not the results we're looking for.

"Kyle put together a solid race, and the entire team got some valuable training in."

Michigan Tech will host the Pre-U.S. Nationals at the Nordic Training Center in Houghton next weekend (Dec. 20-21).
