Wildcat Open Day 1 Results

ISHPEMING, Mich. — The Michigan Tech Nordic skiing teams raced at the Wildcat Open at Al Quaal Recreation Area with a men's 10-kilometer freestyle race and a women's 5K freestyle.

Tom Bye had the best finish by a Husky on the day with a fifth-place showing in the men's race. He posted a time of 23:42. Kyle Hanson was ninth at 24:20 while David Joda took 11th position with a 25:16.

Alice Flanders was ninth in a tight pack of finishers in the women's race. Her time of 13:33 was just 16 seconds back of third. Anna Kubek notched a 12th place finish in 13:47 while Ulrika Axelsson was 13th just one second slower.

"We had a really fast course today with great conditions," said Tech coach Joe Haggenmiller. "Our results were a little behind Northern Michigan's pace today, but I expect the gap to close as the season goes on.

"The warm conditions are going to make tomorrow very challenging with waxing. We hope to be a bit more competitive, but I'm not complaining about where we were at today, either."

The Huskies return to Al Quaal for classic style races tomorrow.
