Flanders and Hanson Lead Huskies at West Yellowstone

WEST YELLOWSTONE, Mont. — Michigan Tech wrapped up its racing at the West Yellowstone Ski Festival with freestyle distance races today. Tech once again raced against an elite field at the Rendezvous Ski Trails.

2013-14 NCAA All-American Alice Flanders led the Huskies with a 35th place finish in the women's 10-kilometer. She crossed the line in a time of 29:48. Teammates Ulrika Axelsson and Lisa Konig were 65th and 66th with times of 32:07 and 32:11, respectively. Carolyn Lucca (77th, 33:27) and Ruth Oppliger (85th, 35:38) also competed from the women's team.

Kyle Hanson led the men's team for the second straight day with a 50th place finish. He raced through the 15-kilometer course in 40:35. David Joda was six spots back with a time of 41:02. Sam Holmes (85th, 44:38) and Logan Brueck (93rd, 47:52) also skied in the men's race.

"We had some pretty good results on both sides," said Tech assistant coach Andrew Joda. "This was a really deep field, and I think we represented ourselves well.

"Overall, the week out here gave us a good opportunity to shake off the rust and get in a lot of training to get our season started."

Michigan Tech will host Northern Michigan in the UP Dual meet at the Nordic Training Center on Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 6-7).
