Alice Flanders and Tom Bye had the top performances for the Michigan Tech women’s and men’s Nordic skiing teams today in day one at the NCAA Championships. Today’s discipline was freestyle, with the women racing five kilometers and the men racing 10K.

Michigan Tech has qualified four individuals for the 2015 NCAA Skiing Championships it was officially announced today by the NCAA Skiing Committee. The Championships will take place on March 11 and 13 in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Michigan Tech had a region champion for the second day in a row as the Huskies completed day two of the NCAA Central Region Championships at Al Quaal Recreation Area today. Ulrika Axelsson and Deedra Irwin finished first and second in the women’s 15-kilometer classic race.

Alice Flanders claimed the NCAA Central Regional title in the women’s five-kilometer freestyle today at Al Quaal. Haakon Hjelstuen also earned a spot on the podium with a third-place result in the men’s 10K freestyle.

Michigan Tech’s Haakon Hjelstuen has been named the CCSA Skier of the Week for his performance at the Twin Cities Championships on Jan. 24-25 at Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis.
