Huskies suffer Davenport defeat
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Michigan Tech dropped their second straight match by a 4-3 score Friday against Davenport University at Grand Rapids Racquet and Fitness Club. The Huskies (0-10, 0-2) continued a recent stretch of strong doubles play to lead 1-0, but suffered four losses in singles to remain winless on the season.
Despite the team loss, Vitor Jordao picked up his first win of the spring at No. 1 singles in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 over Subash Paramasivam. Ricardo Nunez was also victorious for the first time, winning 6-2, 6-4 over Simone Pacciolla at No. 6.
Nunez teamed with Ambarish Rao to also win at No. 3 doubles 6-1 against Subash Paramasivam and Daniil Khitrou.
"It was a hard-fought match by both teams today," said head coach Kristin D'Agostini-Yep. "It came down to the end but we came up just short. We look forward to trying to get a win tomorrow."
The Huskies play at Purdue Northwest (5-4, 2-0) Saturday at Forest Park Tennis Club. The Pride has won three straight matches.
