Men's Tennis Ends 2015 Season at Wayne

HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech wrapped up its 2014-15 men's tennis season today with an 8-1 loss at Wayne State.

The Huskies' lone point came from No 2 doubles duo Javier Oliveros and Robin Duhnsen, who earned an 8-3 victory. WSU won the other two doubles flights by 8-3 counts.

Duhnsen forced a third-set tiebreaker at No. 2 singles in the only three-set match, but fell 4-6, 6-1, 10-3.

Oliveros was defeated 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles in his final collegiate match. No. 6 player Luke Doskey also wrapped up his career. He took his opponent to a 7-5 score in the first set before falling 7-5, 6-2. Tech also had chances in the first set at Nos 4 and 5, but lost by a break in each.

"We played much better than yesterday and had a lot of close matches," said Tech coach Kevin Kalinec. "Robin was our best player all day and nearly beat a really good opponent.

"We're going to miss Javier and Luke. Javier was not only a good player but a good leader with his heart and spirit. Luke worked hard over his career and earned his spot in the lineup this year. I'm proud of both guys for the way they represented Michigan Tech with class."

Michigan Tech finished 2014-15 with a 2-13 overall record and 1-8 GLIAC mark.
