Suthijindawong and Rodriguez Named Tennis MVPs
HOUGHTON, Mich. — Kwang Suthijindawong and Pedro Rodriguez
were named the most valuable players of the 2013-14 Michigan Tech
men's and women's tennis seasons it was announced recently at a
team dinner.
Suthijindawong (Bangkok, Thailand) posted a 19-1 singles record
and 17-4 doubles mark in 2013-14 en route to All-GLIAC First Team
honors. She was 17-0 at No. 2 singles in dual matches including a
perfect 13-0 mark in conference play. The sophomore's doubles
partner for nearly every match was Natalia Lebedeva. The pair went
16-3 overall and 11-1 in league play. Suthijindawong, who was the
GLIAC Freshman of the Year in 2012-13, is now a two-time team
MVP.
Other women's team awards went to Kat Donovan (Franklin, Wis.) and
Audrey Hutton (Warren, Mich./Center Line). Donovan was the team's
most improved player. The freshman posted a 4-13 mark at No. 6
singles. Hutton was 6-12 on the season and earned the team's
scholastic achievement award for her 3.96 grade point average in
geological engineering.
Rodriguez (Durango, Mexico) paced the men's team in combined wins
with 30. He earned 11 of those at No. 3 singles and 19 more at No.
1 doublues with partner Felipe Dos Santos. Rodriguez and Dos Santos
finished the regular season as the top-ranked doubles duo in the
Midwest Region. The senior was also a two-time team MVP.
Nick Kremkow (Hudsonville, Mich.) and Luke Doskey (Houghton,
Mich.) also received awards. Kremkow was the team's most improved
player for the second consecutive year. He played No. 5 singles and
posted a 10-11 overall singles record. Doskey, who appeared in one
varsity match, gained the scholastic achievement award with his
3.53 GPA in chemistry.
