Huskies Earn 8-1 Tennis Win over Lake Superior State

HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech moved to 2-0 on the season with an 8-1 non-conference victory over Lake Superior State today at Gates Tennis Center. The Huskies won two of three doubles points and all six singles matches on the day.

Tech's No. 1 and No. 3 doubles duos both won for the second time on the weekend. Felipe Dos Santos and Pedro Rodriguez combined for an 8-2 victory at the top spot while Built Yumuang and Nick Kremkow were also winners.

The Huskies polished off the team victory with the first three singles matches off the courts. Yumuang (6-3, 6-0 at No. 4) and Dos Santos (6-3, 6-2 at No. 1) both claimed straight set decisions.

The fifth and decisive point came from Rodriguez at No. 3, where he finished off a 6-2, 7-6 (4) win.

Javier Oliveros was three points away from victory in a second set tiebreaker at No. 2 singles, but lost 7-5 in the tiebreaker. He wrapped it up in the third set with a 6-4 score.

Kremkow and Jimmy Konarske, at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, respectively, also won in straight sets for the Huskies to close out the match.

Michigan Tech will have a week off before opening conference play Feb. 21 at Lake Erie.
