SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Michigan Tech hockey team fell 3-1 at Lake Superior State on Friday (Jan. 26). Isaac Gordon scored the lone goal for the Huskies who fall to 10-11-5 overall and 7-7-1 in the CCHA.

"I thought Lake State played a good game," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "They're a beat-up team that played hard tonight. We gave up a goal after tying it and that seems like our M.O. this season. I didn't think we competed as hard as you need to have success in this league."

LSSU (12-13-1, 9-8-1 CCHA) opened scoring when Carter Batchelder tipped in a pass from Nate Schweitzer on the power play 16:09 into the game. Evan Bushy added the second assist.

Isaac Gordon tied it up with his team-leading 13th of the season 2:39 later when he finished off a breakaway after a stretch pass by Lachlan Getz. Jack Works added the second assist as Gordon extended his point streak to three games.

The Lakers took the lead again with 24.4 seconds left in the first when Connor Milburn scored on a rebound from Dawson Tritt and Ross Roloson.

There wasn't any scoring in the second period. Logan Pietila and Jack Works each had a shorthanded breakaway that didn't find the back of the net, and Austen Swankler hit the crossbar on the power play.

The Huskies racked up 20 shots in the third period, but couldn't sneak the equalizer past LSSU goaltender Easton Hesse who battled through cramps to earn the win with 34 saves.

The Lakers were awarded a goal with 27 seconds left when Dawson Tritt was tripped on a partial breakaway with the net empty.

Tech led in shots 35-31. The Huskies were 0-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.

The teams will wrap up their only meeting of the season at 6:07 p.m. on Saturday back at Taffy Abel Arena.
