MARQUETTE, Mich. – Michigan Tech fell 7-2 at Northern Michigan on Saturday (Jan. 6) in exhibition play at the Berry Events Center. Isaac Gordon and Lauri Raiman scored for the Huskies.

"It was important for us to see our overall depth and what players can step up with an enhanced role," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "We need to find nine forwards and five defensemen that we can count on for the second half of the season. Everybody had a chance tonight, and we'll get together and watch video and continue to learn and get better."

The Wildcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead with two goals in the first and a pair of tallies in the second before the Huskies broke through.

Isaac Gordon finished off a passing play from Ryland Mosley and Austen Swankler to get the Black and Gold on the board 13:31 into the second period.

NMU added another goal 15:11 into the second and then again 19 seconds into the third.

Lauri Raiman scored on a rebound on the power play 13:33 into the third period. Isaac Gordon's shot was saved, and Austen Swankler also assisted.

Northern scored the final tally a little over a minute later.

The teams combined for 14 penalties with 13 being called in the final two periods.

NMU led in shots 34-25. Max Vayrynen had 18 saves in the first two periods, and Michael Morelli saw his first game action with nine saves in the third.

Tech returns to regular season play next weekend at St. Thomas. The Huskies and Tommies will play on Thursday and Saturday at St. Thomas Ice Arena.
