MANKATO, Minn. – The Michigan Tech hockey team won 3-2 in overtime at Minnesota State Friday (Nov. 24). Ryland Mosley scored a power-play goal with six seconds left in the extra session to give the Huskies their fifth win of the season on his second goal of the night and second overtime goal of the season.

"I didn't think we competed or executed that well tonight, but it was good to find a way to find the extra point," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "Hopefully, that pays big dividends for us down the road."

Both teams had great scoring chances in the overtime. Blake Pietila made a huge glove save on a shorthanded chance by Brian Carrabes 2:00 into the extra session. Keenan Rancier responded with a sliding blocker save on a one-timer off the stick of Isaac Gordon 30 seconds later.

Max Koskipirtti was tripped on a breakaway with 44 seconds left, drawing a penalty. With 13 seconds remaining, the Huskies won a drawback to Matthew Campbell. He slid the puck down to Ryland Mosley for a quick shot past the glove of Rancier for Tech's second win at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center in the last three tries and only the eighth all-time win by the Huskies in Mankato. Logan Pietila also assisted on Mosley's second of the game with a faceoff win.

"We had good execution in overtime," added Shawhan. "That line really stepped up when they needed to tonight. It was a great shot by Moser and a good job by Logan to win that draw."

The Huskies jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the game. Ryland Mosley opened scoring 4:45 after faceoff with his seventh of the season. Trevor Russell took a shot from the outside that deflected off a defenseman. Mosley tracked the puck and banged it in for his 25th career goal. Jed Pietila added the second assist.

Isaac Gordon added to the lead 67 seconds later when he one-touched in a setup feed from Kyle Kukkonen. Logan Pietila started the play when he created a turnover behind the net and Gordon scored his seventh of the season.

MSU (5-5-1, 3-2-0 CCHA) cut into the margin when Luc Wilson scored from the high slot through traffic at 11:36 of the first period. Brandon Koch and Adam Eisele assisted on the play.

There wasn't any scoring in the second period even with Tech having multiple chances on a pair of power plays.

The Mavericks tied the game 12:17 into the third period after a tally by Steven Bellini from Sam Morton and Brian Carrabes. Coach Shawhan challenged for a possible offside but the goal stood after a lengthy review by the officials.

Tech outshot MSU 38-23. Blake Pietila won his 62nd career game with 21 saves. Keenan Rancier stopped 35 shots for the home team.

Tech was 1-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The Huskies and Mavericks will wrap up the CCHA series in the second of four meetings this season at 7:07 p.m. Eastern on Saturday.
