HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech hockey team came back from a first intermission deficit and defeated Ferris State 3-2 Saturday to earn 4-of-6 CCHA points on the weekend. Logan Pietila, Tyrone Bronte, and Marcus Pedersen scored the goals for the Huskies.

"We've taken points in three of four league games so far," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "It was a grind all weekend. Ferris is a good team and well-coached team. They defend so well and are hard to play against. It was good to get three goals tonight against a really good goaltender."

Marcus Pedersen scored the game-winning goal 4:46 into the third period to break a 2-2 tie. Ryland Mosley fed the puck out front. Trevor Russell got a whack at it, and Pedersen waited patiently at the side of the net and jammed in the loose puck for his third of the season and fourth of his career.

"I was just in my office right in front of the net. It just happened to fall on my stick," Pedersen said. "I had a tough first two years here, but I've been able to get more comfortable offensively. It feels good to start contributing more."

The Bulldogs outshot the Huskies 12-7 in the third and got a late power play, but the home team was able to keep possession deep in the offensive zone. Goaltender Logan Stein was finally pulled with 1:08 left on the clock, but Ferris State was unable to get any offensive pressure before the clock ran out.

Ferris State jumped out to the lead 12:38 into the game with a power-play goal by Antonio Venuto—his third tally of the weekend.

Logan Pietila tied the game 4:04 into the second period, scoring shorthanded on a breakaway for his fourth goal of the season and 36th of his career. He leads the nation with five career shorthanded goals.

Tyrone Bronte gave Tech its first lead of the game 12:00 into the second when he finished off a centering feed from Blais Richartz. Alex Nordstrom added the second assist on Bronte's second of the season and 10th of his career.

"Hard work on the sidewall by Alex, and he took two guys with him. Blais had eyes on the back of his head and put it right in the middle to me. All I had to do was beat the goalie," Bronte said. "It was huge to get four out of six points this weekend. We know we're a good team, and we know we're good players individually. We need to keep taking it one win at a time."

The Bulldogs tied the game with 3:04 left in the second when Luigi Benincasa found the back of the net from Jacob Dirks.

Tech led in shots 33-28. Blake Pietila earned his third win of the season and 61st of his career with 26 saves. Logan Stein made 30 saves for the visitors.

The Huskies head back to Minnesota next weekend for a CCHA series in Mankato at Minnesota State.
