Beavers storm back for Saturday win over Tech Play Video

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Michigan Tech hockey team lost 6-4 at Bemidji State on Saturday (Nov. 11) at the Sanford Center. The Huskies held a 4-0 lead in the second period before surrendering six straight.

"We had trouble getting the puck out of our zone. We obviously need to work on defending," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "I give Bemidji a ton of credit. They got after it and got on top of our D."

Isaac Gordon opened scoring only 60 seconds into the game when he finished off a 2-on-1 rush with Max Koskipirtti. It was Gordon's sixth of the season with Chase Pietila also assisting on a pass up the boards to a streaking Koskipirtti.

Tech thought they added to the lead later in the period on a wrist shot by Jack Works. The officials stopped the play and reviewed but the puck rang off the post.

Jack Works did make it 2-0 at 9:22 of the first when he ripped in a shot right after Arvid Caderoth won a faceoff. It was the second goal of the season for Works and the fifth point of the weekend for Caderoth.

Ryland Mosley scored 6:22 into the second on the power play. Logan Pietila fed the puck out front off the wall and Mosley one-touched it into the back of the net between his legs. It was Mosley's sixth of the season.

Marcus Pedersen gave the Huskies a 4-0 lead when he carried the puck in from the red line and fired in his second of the season and his second career goal at the Sanford Center. Isaac Gordon and Kasper Vaharautio assisted on the play.

The Beavers took it from there. Alexander Lundman got the home team on the board from Carter Jones and Jackson Jutting 15:33 into the second period.

Kyle Looft scored from Alexander Lundman and Carter Jones at 17:03 for a two-goal margin and then Jackson Jutting scored on the power play with 28 seconds left in the second to keep the momentum going.

The Beavers tied the game 76 seconds into the third on a puck that deflected off a Tech defenseman and across the line. Kasper Magnussen was credited with the goal.

Eric Pohlkamp scored the game-winner with 3:52 left in the third with a shot through traffic.

Tech pulled Blake Pietila with 2:40 left and Kyle Looft scored into the open net from his goaltender's crease for the final tally.

The Beavers led in shots 32-19. Blake Pietila made 26 saves and Gavin Enright stopped 15 shots.

The Huskies return to the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena next weekend to host Ferris State in the first CCHA home series of the season.
