Huskies win 4-2 at Lake Superior State Friday

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Michigan Tech hockey team won 4-2 at Lake Superior State Friday (Nov. 15) for its second WCHA road win of the season. Trenton Bliss scored twice, while Logan Ganie and Brian Halonen also found the back of the net.

"I'm proud we came out with the victory. They haven't come easy this year," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "It doesn't matter how we get the points we're just happy to get them.

"I thought we were good in the first and played pretty well in the third. We had a little lapse in the second, but we made some changes and got back on track. We continue to grow and get better. Tonight we were able to create more offense and get some goals."

The Huskies (4-6, 2-5 WCHA) buzzed early with a scoring chance by Alec Broetzman and then Justin Misiak nailed the crossbar. Ganie broke the ice 3:01 after puck drop, scoring his first collegiate goal after he redirected a pass by Colin Swoyer into the back of the net.

Bliss made it 2-0 with a power-play tally at the 15:57 mark of the first. Eric Gotz and Seamus Donohue worked the puck up top to Bliss. He calmly found his spot and wristed it top shelf for his third of the season.

6:09 into the second period, Bliss made it 3-0 when he stole a puck on the half wall and sniped another shot over Mareks Mittens. The unassisted tally was his 10th career goal.

LSSU (4-9, 2-3 WCHA) got on the scoresheet when Max Humitz scored at the 12:26 mark of the second. Yuki Miura and Will Riedell assisted on the goal.

In the third period, Justin Misiak created a turnover and Brian Halonen buried his third of the season for a 4-1 Tech lead at 12:41.

The Lakers answered 59 seconds later on a goal by Niko Esposito-Selivanov. Mitchell Oliver and Riedell assisted.

LSSU pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker with 2:50 remaining but only got one shot through to Matt Jurusik.

The Huskies led in shots 30-25. Jurusik stopped 23 shots for his third win of the season.

Tech was 1-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The two teams wrap up the WCHA series on Saturday (Nov. 16). The puck drops at 7:07 p.m. at Taffy Abel Arena.
