Hockey falls at No. 17 Bowling Green Friday

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Michigan Tech hockey team fell 3-1 at No. 17 Bowling Green in the first WCHA road game for the Huskies. All four goals were scored on the power play.

"It was a good hockey game. Take the power plays out and it's a whole different deal," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "They got the guys that can make the difference on the power play, and they did that tonight. When we got the puck, we were slowing the game down and taking our time when we don't have time against a team like this. We need to explode like they did."

Trenton Bliss gave the Huskies the lead 5:09 after puck drop with his second of the season. Greyson Reitmeier dumped the puck behind the net but it caromed off the glass and out front. All Bliss had to do was tap it into the open net. Seamus Donohue was credited with the secondary assist on the eighth career goal for Bliss.

The Falcons (4-2, 1-0 WCHA) tied it up 4:16 later with a power-play goal by Connor Ford when he banged in a loose puck out front of the Tech net. Brandon Kruse and Alec Rauhauser assisted on the equalizer.

The home team took the lead 15:17 into the second period with a power-play goal by Will Cullen. He caught a cross-ice pass from Tim Theocharidis and roofed it for the 2-1 lead. Frederic Letourneau also assisted.

Ford again found the scoresheet 12:17 into the third on a scramble out front to put the home team up 3-1. Alex Barber and Max Johnson were credited with assists.

Coach Shawhan took his timeout with under a minute left and then pulled goaltender Matt Jurusik, but the Huskies didn't generate any quality scoring chances.

The Falcons outshot the Huskies 26-21. Matt Jurusik finished with 23 saves for the Huskies, and Eric Dopp stopped 20 shots for the home team.

Tech (2-3, 0-3 WCHA) was whistled for four penalties and BGSU had six. The Huskies were 1-for-5 on the power play.

The two teams will wrap up the first of two WCHA series this season on Saturday (Oct. 26). Puck drop is set for 7:07 p.m.
