Huskies shutout Robert Morris for weekend sweep

PITTSBURGH – Alec Broetzman had a four-point night, including a first-period hat trick, to lead Michigan Tech to a 7-0 win at Robert Morris Sunday (Oct. 6). Matt Jurusik stopped 25 shots for his third shutout as a Husky.
"Pucks went in for us early and the guys stuck to their discipline in the third period," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "I thought everybody played well today.
"Broetzman had a great game and a good weekend all around. His line with Smith and Saretsky was outstanding. Parker's showing he can play at this level and really adds to that line."
The Huskies scored early and often, taking a 5-0 lead in the first period. Trenton Bliss scored 4:04 into the game when he tapped in a cross-crease pass from Greyson Reitmeier. Brian Halonen added the secondary assist.
Broetzman then scored a natural hat trick in a span of 8:47. Alex Smith set him up from behind the net on the power play for his second on the weekend at 9:34. Parker Saretsky also assisted.
Again on the power play, Seamus Donohue fed Broetzman in the slot. He kicked the puck up to his stick and wristed it in for a 3-0 lead at 16:18. Colin Swoyer assisted on the play.
Just over 2:00 later, he blasted in a one-timer after a feed again from Smith. Donohue added the second assist on Broetzman's 12th career goal.
"When you're playing with Alex Smith you just have to get open in the slot and get off a good shot," Broetzman said.
"We came out with a good start today. Every line was getting production and it was nice to put a full game together."
Saretsky buried his first collegiate goal putting in a long rebound after a shot by Broetzman was steered aside. Cooper Watson also assisted on the goal with 70 seconds left in the first.
Halonen scored the lone goal in the second period as he finished off a centering feed from Logan Pietila at 8:13. It was Halonen's first of the season and 13th of his career. Bliss added an assist.
Eric Gotz got on the scoresheet 4:11 into the third. The puck worked around the boards and came out to the point. Gotz blasted a shot with the goaltender screened for his second career tally. Saretsky assisted on the play.
Shots were 27-25 in favor of the Huskies. Jurusik stopped nine shots in the first and eight in the each of the final two periods. He stopped 59-of-60 shots on the weekend.
Tech was 2-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill. The Huskies killed off all eight RMU power plays on the weekend.
David Raisanen made his Michigan Tech debut Sunday.
Tech hosts Alaska next weekend in the WCHA and home opener at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena. The puck drops at 7:07 p.m. Friday and 6:07 p.m. Saturday.
