Huskies fall Saturday at Bemidji State

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Michigan Tech hockey team fell 3-0 to Bemidji State Saturday (Jan. 19) at the Sanford Center. The Beavers scored a pair of goals in the second period and tacked on an empty-net tally late in the game.

"It was a very disappointing game here tonight," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "Bemidji played extremely well and won all the battles. Our guys are trying hard but are very frustrated. Every mistake is magnified right now. We'll get back at it Monday and continue to try and work through this."

After a scoreless first period, Jay Dickman capitalized on the power play 10:59 into the second. He jammed in a pass by Brendan Harris with Charlie Combs also adding an assist.

Adam Brady made it 2-0 with 59 seconds left in the second when his shot from the top of the circle trickled past the goal line. Ethan Somoza and Ross Armour were credited with the assists.

BSU (12-11-3, 10-7-1-0 WCHA) settled into its defensive style of play in the third period, allowing the Huskies only five shots on goal.

Coach Shawhan pulled Devin Kero—who played the third period—for the extra attacker with 2:36 left. Brendan Harris potted the empty net goal with Somoza and Brady assisting at the 18:36 mark of the third period.

BSU outshot Tech 25-18. Robbie Beydoun made 19 saves in the first 40:00. Kero stopped three shots in the third. Zach Driscoll had 18 saves for the home team.

Both teams hit two pipes. Thomas Beretta nailed the crossbar 4:30 into the third period that the officials reviewed.

Dylan Steman had the best scoring chance for the Huskies after a centering feed by Jake Lucchini from behind the net 5:00 into the game. Driscoll was there for a dandy of a glove save.

Tech is now 11-13-2 overall and 10-7-1-1 in the WCHA and continues its four-game road trip next weekend (Jan. 25-26) at Alaska Anchorage. The puck drops at 11:07 p.m. each night at Sullivan Arena between the Huskies and Seawolves.
