Huskies Ranked in Top 10 in Final Hockey Polls
HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech earned a final ranking of No. 9 in both the USCHO and USA TODAY/USA Hockey Magazine polls released this week. It's the first time since 1981 that the Huskies have finished the season in the top 10 of the rankings.
Tech ranked in the top 10 for 12 straight weeks to end the season and 20 weeks overall including a week at No. 1 after starting the year 10-0-0.
Michigan Tech had an ultra-successful 2014-15 campaign with a nation-leading 29 wins, its first home playoff series in 22 years and its first NCAA Tournament berth in 34 years. The Huskies led the nation in goal differential (+1.71 per game) with the country's sixth-best scoring offense and second-best scoring defense.
After finishing in second in the WCHA by one point in the standings, the Huskies advanced to the WCHA Final Five Championship game with a 5-2 victory over Bowling Green in the semifinals. The Black and Gold were defeated by then-No. 1 Minnesota State in the title tilt. Tech's season ended in the NCAA West Regional semifinal vs. St. Cloud State, a 3-2 overtime final.
The No. 9 final ranking adds to a long list of accolades for the program including College Hockey News National Coach of the Year honors for Mel Pearson and CCM All-America First Team plaudits for Tanner Kero.
