Back In Top 10 For Tech Hockey
HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech hockey team climbed back into the nation's top 10 after a WCHA series split against Bowling Green over the weekend. The Huskies are No. 10 in the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls this week.
On Friday, Tech earned a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over the Falcons, who were ranked No. 7 at the time. The Huskies trailed twice in the game, but Brent Baltus scored the equalizer, and Tanner Kero the game-winner in the third period. Despite a pair of goals by Blake Pietila and outshooting the Falcons 40-28 on Saturday, the Huskies fell 3-2.
The Huskies continue their nine-game home stand this weekend (Jan. 23-24) against Alaska. The two teams face off at 7:07 p.m. both nights. The Nanooks are fifth in the WCHA standings with a 7-10-1 league mark and 12-11-1 overall record. They are coming off a pair of losses to rival Alaska Anchorage in the Governor's Cup.
After starting the season unranked, the Huskies climbed to No. 1 on Nov. 17 for the first time since 1976. They remained in the top 10 until last week, but quickly repositioned themselves.
Tickets for this weekend's games are $17 for reserved adult seats and $5 for youth reserved seats. They can be purchased at the Central Ticket Office in the Student Development Complex, online at BuyHuskiesTickets.com or over the phone by calling 906-487-2073.
