HOUGHTON, Mich. – Former Michigan Tech goaltender Pheonix Copley got a brief call up to the NHL's Washington Capitals over the weekend, serving in a backup role in the team's 3-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday (Jan. 10) in Washington DC. He returned to the Hershey Bears of the AHL Sunday (Jan. 11).

Copley is 6-3-1 with a pair of shutouts, a 2.00 goals against average and a .921 save percentage in 11 games with the Bears. Former Husky Chris Conner also plays for Hershey.

After his sophomore season ended with the Huskies, Copley signed a pro deal with Washington on March 19, 2014. He played in three regular season games and one playoff contest for the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL at the end of the 2013-14 season.

Copley was expected to start the 2014-15 season with South Carolina, but an injury moved him up to Hershey. Another injury gave him the brief stint with the NHL club.
