Hockey Ranked Fifth This Week

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech dropped a spot to No. 5 in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls. Tech is 13-3-0 overall and on top of the WCHA standings with 20 points and a 10-2-0 mark in league play.

The Huskies are coming off a non-conference weekend split with Minnesota Duluth at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. It was a meeting of top 10 teams as Tech was No. 4 and UMD was No. 9. The Bulldogs won 3-1 Friday with the Huskies coming away with a 4-3 victory Saturday, after Michael Neville scored with just over 18 seconds left in the game.

The Huskies are off until Dec. 28 and 29 when they host the 50th edition of the Great Lakes Invitational at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. Tech and Michigan faceoff at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 28 in the first semifinal game. Michigan State and Ferris State play the nightcap at 7 p.m. The winners will advance to the championship game on  Dec. 29 at 7 p.m., while the other two teams will meet in the third-place game at 3:30 p.m. on the same day.
