Hockey Enters Polls at No. 17 After 4-0 Start

HOUGHTON, Mich. – For the first time since November 2011, the Michigan Tech hockey team is ranked in the USCHO.com Top 20 Poll. The 4-0 Huskies enter the poll at No. 17 and host No. 15 Michigan at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena this weekend.

Tech swept Ferris State last weekend in Big Rapids with a 1-0 win Friday and a 2-1 win Saturday. The Huskies swept Lake Superior State on the opening weekend of hockey Oct. 4-5. Tech is one of five unbeaten teams in college hockey and is 4-0 for the first time since the 2011-12 season—Mel Pearson's first year as the head coach.

The Wolverines are making their first appearance in Houghton since 1983 and are 2-3-0 on the season.

Tech will also be hosting the Stanley Cup Friday. Fans with a ticket to either Friday or Saturday's game will be able to view the trophy along with the Hart Trophy, Conn Smythe Trophy, MacNaughton Cup and Gibson Cup.

Other events for the hockey series are:

• 7th Man T-Shirts: ArcelorMittal purchased 850 T-shirts to give away to Michigan Tech students. The first 100 "7th Man" shirts will be given away during a live radio show Wednesday (Oct. 29) in the Van Pelt and Opie Library. Then Friday (Oct. 31), the first 750 students in the door will receive their free gold shirt.
• Student Organization Costume Challenge: The Michigan Tech student organization that has the most members in attendance on Friday wearing a Halloween costume will win a $200 prize at the Mine Shaft.
• Joey's On-Ice Halloween Costume Contest: All fans wearing a costume to Friday's game can take part in a parade on the ice during the first intermission. The contestant with the top costume, as chosen by the audience, will earn free Monday meals for a year at Joey's Seafood and Grill.
