ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Michigan Tech and Alaska Anchorage skated to a 2-2 tie to wrap up their weekend series at Sullivan Arena tonight. The Huskies held a pair of one-goal leads but the Seawolves tallied a pair of power-play markers to tie the score each time. Tech held a 28-18 advantage in shots on goal.

"We put in a good, honest effort tonight," said head coach Mel Pearson. "We obviously wanted the win, but we'll take the point."

Michigan Tech gained its first lead in a road game all season when Ryan Furne one-timed a shot from the right circle. The senior took a Michael Neville pass and got it on net quickly. The goal came at the 9:12 mark and was also assisted by Malcolm Gould.

The first penalty of the game came one minute later, and UAA's opening goal followed. The Seawolves shot it off the end wall. It bounced out above the goal line and was fed immediately across to a waiting Jordan Kwas who tapped it in back door.

Alaska Anchorage (6-4-2, 3-3-2 WCHA) took two penalties early in the second period, and the Huskies made the 5-on-3 pay. Tanner Kero started a rush and fed Alex Petan who fired a shot from the slot. The rebound went back to Kero who put it past Rob Gunderson for his second power-play goal of the weekend.

The teams combined for 12 penalty minutes in the second period, but there was no more scoring until the third.

UAA, on its fifth power-play opportunity of the night, got a goal from Austin Coldwell 7:40 into stanza.

Reid Sturos and Blake Hietala both had great chances in the final period of regulation to give Tech its third goal, but Gunderson was up to the task. Those shots were two of the Seawolves netminder's 26 saves on the night.

Tech goalie Pheonix Copley was tested with 18 shots. He stopped 16 of those including a point-blank chance in overtime to preserve the tie.

"We've got to find a way to kill penalties," said Pearson. "That said, I'm happy with our overall performance. When you look at the league standings, every point is going to be valuable."

Michigan Tech, which is now 4-8-2 overall and 2-3-1 in WCHA play, will remain in Alaska over the Thanksgiving holiday week and face Alaska Fairbanks next weekend. Games are Friday and Saturday (Nov. 29-30) at 11:07 p.m. ET each night.

Notes: Petan extended his point streak to six games with the assist on Kero's goal. The Huskies' leading scorer has 4-3=7 in the last six games … Tech is now 1-1-2 in overtime games this season and 8-2-10 in three seasons under Coach Pearson in the extra session.
