Tech falls at St. Cloud State

St. Cloud, Minn.Marcus Tomashek came alive from the 3-point line in the second half but Michigan Tech still fell short at St. Cloud State 74-56 Sunday afternoon at Hallenbeck Hall.

SCSU led by as many as 22 points in the game, boosted by Luke Taylor, who finished with 18 points.

Tomashek helped the Huskies cut the margin back to 10 with 20 points on 7-for-15 shooting, including 6-for-10 from beyond the arc but it was not enough.

Michigan Tech (2-5) lost its fourth straight in the midst of a torrid stretch of seven straight away from Houghton. Tech fell to No. 14 ranked Minnesota Duluth 99-65 on Saturday.

"We got out-toughed by St. Cloud State today," said head coach Josh Buettner. "It starts with me in practice demanding guys get a stop. We have a good group of guys. I know we are going to get where we need to be."

The Huskies visit Wisconsin Parkside to tip-off conference play on Thursday, December 1 at 8:30 p.m.

In addition to leading the team with 20 points, Tomashek also grabbed a team-high six rebounds and played 34 minutes.

Fellow freshman Dan Gherezgher also chipped in on offense, with 13 points on 6-for-11 shooting, including four rebounds, and four assists. MTU connected on 22 of 53 total shots (41.5-percent), and went 10-for-26 (38.5-percent) from long range.

Conversely, St. Cloud State crossed 50-percent shooting (28-55) with 10 made threes on 18 tries (56-percent).

SCSU also won the boards battle 34-27 and picked off eight steals. Along with Taylor, Matthew Willert (17 points) and Tommy Chatman (12 points) also made it to double figures. St. Cloud State improved to 3-3.
