Coleman and Johnston Set to Join Huskies for 2017-18 Season

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech men's basketball program and Head Coach Kevin Luke are pleased to announce that Elisha Coleman and Carter Johnston will be joining the team for the 2017-18 season. Both players have decided to continue their academic and athletic careers as Huskies.

"Both of these players are great people for Michigan Tech and our program," Luke said. "I'm very excited that this completes our roster for next year. Both players are great academic fits and will be great basketball additions for our program."

Coleman, a 6'0 point guard from Minneapolis, Minnesota, prepped at Maranatha Christian Academy where he averaged 16 points, eight rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game. Coleman was recognized for his efforts on the floor with First Team All-Conference honors. He was also named the teams' Most Valuable Player and chosen as captain.

"Elisha will give us depth at the point guard position," Luke said. "He is a long guard that can penetrate into the heart of the defense and can create a lot of opportunities for our shooters. He will be a good rebounder at that position and a good defender enabling us to put pressure on opposing offenses."

Johnston, a 6'3 guard from Beaverton, Michigan, averaged 24.1 points, six rebounds, and four assists per game at Beaverton High School. Johnston racked up 1,193 career points and helped lead the team to a 20-6 overall record along with an appearance in the state quarterfinals this past season. His father Jeff (Basketball) and mother Stephanie (Volleyball) were both  outstanding athletes at Michigan Tech. Johnston's grandfather broke the MHSAA coaching wins' record during the 2016-17 season.

"Carter comes from a great family of which both his parents were standout athletes," Luke said. "He has a complete game in that he can handle the ball, can shoot, can score, and is versatile. That's why we like bringing him into the program because he can play multiple positions on the perimeter."

Coleman and Johnston join TeeAaron Powell (Chicago, Ill.), Dawson Bilski (Powers, Mich.), Trent Bell (Negaunee, Mich.), and Kyle Clow (Germantown, Wis.) in this year's recruiting class.

Michigan Tech wrapped up the 2016-17 campaign with an overall record of 16-14 and tied for second in the GLIAC North Division standings. The Huskies advanced to the GLIAC Tournament semifinals, narrowly losing to top-seeded Ferris State.
