Stankowski and Stelzer Pick Up GLIAC Commissioner's Awards

BAY CITY, Mich. — Michigan Tech men's basketball players Kyle Stankowski (Mosinee, Wis.) and Ben Stelzer (Manitowoc, Wis.) both earned GLIAC Commissioner's Awards for academic and athletic excellence. The GLIAC presents Commissioner's Awards after the fall, winter, and spring athletic seasons to six female and six male student-athletes that excel both in the classroom and on the fields of play.

Stankowski was fourth in scoring at Michigan Tech, averaging 8.5 points per game while shooting 49 percent from the floor. The junior center was second on the team in rebounding (4.4 boards per game) and scored in double figures 10 times, including a career-high 18 points in a win over Grand Valley State (Jan. 17). Stankowski owns a 3.92 grade point average in electrical engineering.

Stelzer received All-America honors from both the NABC and Daktronics and was named Capital One Academic All-America Second Team, Daktronics Midwest Player of the Year, GLIAC Player of the Year and All-GLIAC First Team in 2014-15. The senior guard led all players in the Midwest Region in scoring (22.1 points per game) and ranked second in the nation in 3-point field goals made per game (3.96). He was also among the national leaders in scoring and 3-point percentage (45.7). Stelzer holds a 3.69 cumulative GPA in finance.
