HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech men's basketball team extended its winning streak to four games with a 67-44 win over Tiffin on Saturday (Jan. 4) afternoon at the SDC Gym. The Huskies held the Dragons to only 18 second half points and led by as many as 28 in the second half.

"I thought we were really sharp today, both offensively and defensively," Tech coach Kevin Luke said. "We didn't shoot particularly well from three but we took good shots. Our defense was very good all afternoon and we did a good job on the boards."

Tech (8-2, 4-2 GLIAC) had three players in double figures, and all 14 Huskies who suited up played, including the season debut of Kyle Stankowski. Austin Armga scored a game-high 19 points while Ben Stelzer added 16 and Connor McLeod scored a career-high 10 points.

The Huskies scored 13 straight points in a seven-minute span early in the second half to build a nine-point lead to 22 with 11:15 left. The total run was 25-6 as Tech held its largest lead of the game (64-36) with 7:25 remaining.

The Huskies shot 41.4 percent (24-for-58) from the field and had 17 assists on the 24 made field goals. Tech was 12-for-30 (40 percent) from 3-point territory and 7-for-10 from the free throw line. The Black and Gold dominated the boards 40-28, including 16 on the offensive end.

Alex Culy added eight points and six assists for Tech. Jordan Chartier and Jason Hawke combined for 12, all on 3-pointers. Armga and McLeod led in rebounds with six while Troy Hecht had four on the offensive glass.

Tiffin (5-6, 1-5 GLIAC) shot 38.6 percent (17-for-44) from the field and made only 3-of-16 (18.8 percent) from deep.

Joe Graessle was the lone Dragon in double figures with 10 points, 12 below his season average. Kameron Wright added eight while Ashton Khan had seven.

Tech held a 10-point lead at halftime. The hosts jumped out to a 13-2 lead and led by as many as 14 in the first half. A 6-2 run by Tiffin made it 36-26 at the break.

Tech hits the road next week for its final games against teams from the GLIAC South. The Huskies play at Lake Erie on Thursday (Jan. 9) and Ashland on Saturday (Jan. 11).

"Both Lake Erie and Ashland are clearly good clubs on their floor," Luke added. "It's never easy to win on the road but it's part of the fun and challenge."
