Tech Football to Host Scrimmage Wednesday Night

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech football team will be hosting a scrimmage Wednesday night at Sherman Field as part of the countdown to the 2017 season opener. The scrimmage starts at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

A new era for Michigan Tech football begins in 2017 when the season kicks off August 31st at home against Truman State starting at 7 p.m. New Head Coach Steve Olson takes the reigns of the program after serving as an assistant coach under Tom Kearly for six seasons, including the past three as defensive coordinator.

The Huskies wrapped up the 2016 season with an overall record of 4-6, but there were a number of team and individual highlights to build on for the 2017 campaign. The Huskies defeated rival Northern Michigan for the seventh straight time and kept the Miner's Cup in Houghton thanks to a 51-45 victory in overtime. The week before, Tech upset 9th ranked Ashland 24-21 at Sherman Field.

Michigan Tech is picked to finish 6th (38 points) in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Preseason Poll, announced at the beginning of August by the conference office.

VIP 4 Packs and single game tickets are on sale now for the 2017 season. VIP 4 Packs cost $400, and up to $200 may be tax deductible. The VIP ticket program is in its 14th year and this year fans get six games compared to five last season.
