Fox UP Broadcasts of Tech-Northern Games to Continue in 2015-16

NEGAUNEE, Mich. — The two-year relationship between FOX UP, TV6 and the Michigan Tech-Northern Michigan sports rivalry will continue into 2015-16 with the addition of men’s basketball and volleyball to the lineup of hockey, football and women’s basketball. All regular season games in those sports will air live on Fox UP throughout 13 of 15 counties in the Upper Peninsula and four counties in northern Wisconsin.

“We’re excited to continue providing great local sports content to viewers in the communities we serve”, said Rob Jamros, general manager at WLUC.  “The past success of this endeavor has led to our growing partnership and will certainly lead to more great local sports programming like this…stay tuned!”

The first event to be televised will be the football game on Sept. 26. The Huskies and Wildcats will meet at Sherman Field in Houghton for a 7 p.m. kickoff. In hockey, the teams will square off in two home-and-home series—one Oct. 23-24 and the other Mar. 4-5. The volleyball matches between Tech and Northern will come Sept. 29 and Nov. 3. The basketball games—doubleheaders with the women followed by the men—will take place Feb. 1 and 25.

“We’ve had great success in showcasing our rivalry with Northern Michigan—especially in hockey,” said Tech athletic director Suzanne Sanregret. “I’m happy to see our partnership continue to grow and give exposure to more of our athletic programs and hard-working student-athletes. The Tech-Northern rivalry is always entertaining, and we’re happy to be able to share it with fans throughout the UP.”

FOX UP and TV6 began airing Tech-Northern hockey games in 2013-14 and added football and women’s basketball to the slate last year. The addition of men’s basketball and volleyball makes for live coverage of 11 different events on nine dates.

“This growing partnership expands our ability to bring more student-athlete accomplishments into view,” said Northern Michigan director of athletics Forrest Karr. “It also provides educational opportunities and work experience for many talented students and staff members at both institutions. I have been very impressed with the high quality and consistent broadcasts that our students have delivered for fans over the past two years.”
