September 16, 2014 // #FacesOfTheSDC introduces Jane. She has been at Michigan Tech for 28 years and in athletics for 23 years. Jane is an office assistant and works with most of the sports, helping the coaches with the administrative side of their programs.

“I really enjoy getting to know the student-athletes,” she said. “The coaches are also a fun group to interact with.”

Away from the office, Jane enjoys boating in the summer, snowshoeing in the winter, shopping, and watching Michigan Tech and high school athletic events. #FollowTheHuskies


September 9, 2014 // #FacesOfTheSDC introduces Vern. He has been working at the SDC for 10 years. You can find him in the mornings up in the weight room working the desk or fixing equipment.

“I like seeing all the students and the same faces every day,” Vern said.

Before the SDC, Vern spent 37 years working for the postal service. He also served in the Air Force for four years. In his spare time he enjoys fishing, working at Chassell basketball games, watching the Huskies, and hanging out with his three grandkids. #FollowTheHuskies


September 3, 2014 // #FacesOfTheSDC introduces Terry. She has been at Michigan Tech for 30 years and in the SDC for nine. Terry is the department coordinator for the Kinesiology and Integrative Physiology Department, as well as, assisting with the new partnership between Central Michigan University and Tech to offer a Doctorate of Physical Therapy in the U.P.

“I really enjoy working with the students in our departments,” she said. “I probably baby them too much, but it’s fun being the department mom.”

In her free time, Terry enjoys her crafting projects and spending time with her two grandsons. #FollowTheHuskies


August 26, 2014 // #FacesOfTheSDC introduces Craig. He has been at Michigan Tech for 14 and a half years and is entering his third school year as the Director of Intramurals and Physical Education. He organizes and coordinates all the physical education classes and is the director for Tech’s over 30 intramural sports.

“Interacting with the students is the best part of my job,” he said. “The coaches teach most of our classes and they’re a fun group to work with too.”

In his spare time, Craig enjoys hanging out with the family, golfing, fishing, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, and attending Michigan Tech sporting events. #FollowTheHuskies


August 19, 2014 // #FacesOfTheSDC introduces Roy. He has worked in the Michigan Tech equipment room for 21 years and currently handles apparel orders for all 14 sports. Roy graduated from Tech in 1991 and is also Houghton County’s Undersheriff and 911 Coordinator.

“I truly enjoy my work with Tech athletics,” he said. “Being around the student-athletes and student staff keeps me aware of what it takes to get where you want to be in life.”

In his spare time, Roy officiates local high school volleyball matches and basketball games and also umpires girl’s softball. He also plays men’s league at the Portage Lake Golf Course in the summer. #FollowTheHuskies


August 12, 2014 // #FacesOfTheSDC introduces the ladies of the SDC Central Ticket Office (CTO). Erin, Ashley and Mackenzie handle all the ticketing for Athletics, SDC, Gates Tennis and Tech Trail Memberships, Community Programs Classes, Performing Arts Events and the Pine Mountain Music Festival.

The CTO is one of the busiest areas on campus with endless questions from the SDC's 1.8 million customers. This trio can be found behind the glass with smiling faces helping out anyone that comes to the window.

Ashley has been at Michigan Tech for 17 years and is a full-time mom to her three children outside of work. Erin has worked at Tech for seven years and can usually be found with her nose deep in a book when she has free time. Mackenzie is a four-year veteran at Tech and is a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan.

All three talked about all the fun they have working together as a group and how the variety of work and people they interact with on a daily basis are reasons they love what they do. #FollowTheHuskies


August 5, 2014 // #FacesOfTheSDC introduces Paula. November will mark the 19th year she’s been at Michigan Tech. Paula started working in the SDC in 1998 and has held a couple different positions before settling into the main office in 2005. She is instrumental in the behind the scenes organizing of the summer sports camps and community programs.

“I love working here because of the variety of tasks and people I deal with,” she said. “The parents and customers are fun to interact with, and it’s awesome to see some of the same faces year in and year out.”

Outside of work, Paula enjoys hanging out with her three kids, singing karaoke and bowling. #FollowTheHuskies


July 29, 2014 // #FacesOfTheSDC introduces Andre. He has worked at Michigan Tech for 37 years. Andre spends most of his time in the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena and is the Zamboni driver during Husky hockey games. Tech recently purchased a brand new Zamboni, and Andre is very excited to have his new “dream machine.”

“Working with the people is my favorite part of my job,” he said. “Hockey game nights are also a lot of fun.”

Andre has been a Tech hockey fan his whole life and has fond memories of the 1975 NCAA Championship team.

In his spare time, Andre likes to hunt and fish and spend time at his camp. #FollowTheHuskies


July 22, 2014 // #FacesOfTheSDC introduces Lois. She is has worked at the SDC for six years and has been at Michigan Tech for 13 years. Lois is a very busy person and has the large task of managing the building’s schedule for the over 1.8 million customers that walk through the doors on an annual basis.

“The variety of work and being able to interact with students and coaches are the reasons I love my job,” she said. “It’s something different everyday and the games and events make it fun.”

In her spare time, Lois enjoys watching Husky basketball and using the Tech Trails for skiing. She also enjoys gardening, kayaking, watching the Tigers, and spending time with her four grandchildren. #FollowTheHuskies


July 15, 2014 // #FacesOfTheSDC introduces Alane. She has been at Michigan Tech for 24 years and has spent the last 14 years in the Athletic Department. Many would say that Alane is the most helpful person in the department and is always in a very good mood.

“I love my job because of the staff and coaches,” she said. “Working with the great people we have from Suzanne right on down to the student employees makes it easy.”

Alane lives on the lake and enjoys kayaking and walking in the summer and skiing in the winter. She is also a diehard Detroit Red Wings fan who very rarely misses watching them play. Henrik Zetterberg is her favorite player. #FollowTheHuskies


July 8, 2014 // #FacesOfTheSDC introduces Jomara. She creates and updates all of the colorful pictures and posters around the SDC. Jomara also designs graphics for the website and the video board in the MacInnes Student Ice Arena. She is from Puerto Rico and is a Peace Corps student at Tech.

“I think people should try and move to new areas and experience new cultures,” Jomara said. “I love Houghton. I feel very safe here and it’s like a second home for me.”

The Peace Corps will assign Jomara her next destination with a high possibility of going to another country. #FollowTheHuskies


July 1, 2014 // #FacesOfTheSDC introduces Buck. He works weekdays from 8-11 a.m. at the Multipurpose Room desk. Buck has been in a few different roles at Michigan Tech since he was hired in 1988 as the intramural director. He enjoys golfing with his friends on Wednesdays, walking with his wife, traveling, lifting weights, and doing yard work. Buck also drives for the Disabled American Veterans once a month and serves as the chair of the Hancock Recreation Commission.

“The best thing about my job in the SDC is the interaction with the people,” he said. “You get to know the regulars by name. It’s a perfect job for a retired guy like me who needs something to do and enjoys talking to people.”

Buck is also a diehard Detroit Tigers fan and can always give you an update on last night’s game. #FollowTheHuskies


June 24, 2014 // #FacesOfTheSDC introduces Rico. He can be found in the hallways of the SDC in the mornings and has spent 24 years at Michigan Tech. Rico manages the Portage Lake Pioneers hockey team in the winter. He enjoys riding his road bike on Tuesday nights and teeing off on the golf course in the summer. Stop and greet Rico when you see him in the hallway and ask him what he did last night. #FollowTheHuskies
