Eight Tech Tennis Players Earn 2019 ITA Scholar Athlete Awards

TEMPE, Ariz. – Eight members of the Michigan Tech women's and men's tennis programs garnered 2019 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athlete honors, announced recently by the ITA national office. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) earned 62 scholar athletes and 10 all-academic teams.

On the women's side, Jessica Brown, Mirna Golac, Samantha Johnson, and Vicky Quinde were all recognized for their work in the classroom. For the Tech men, Harry Becht, Nico Caviglia, Siddhesh Mahadeshwar, and Nathan Sodini represented the Huskies on this year's honor list.

In addition, the Tech women's team was recognized with an All-Academic Team award. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
