Nate Larson joins Tech staff as Assistant AD

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech Athletics has hired Nate Larson as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine. He officially began his duties on February 25.

"Nate has a tremendous amount of experience in the field and with Michigan Tech Athletics," said Athletic Director Suzanne Sanregret. "We're excited that he is taking on this leadership role with our athletic training group and continuing our relationship with UP Health System to serve the needs of our student-athletes."

Larson has worked for UP Health System - Portage as a Certified Athletic Trainer since 2002. He has worked in many aspects of athletic training while at Portage, including in the rehab clinic, high school athletics, and at Finlandia University. He worked with Michigan Tech Athletics from 2002-08 with the volleyball, cross country, Nordic skiing, men's basketball, women's basketball, and track & field programs. He returned to the Huskies in September 2018 with the hockey team.

"I'm excited for my new position with Michigan Tech," Larson said. "It's been a pleasure to be back with the Huskies this season and work with such incredible student-athletes."

Larson's new role will oversee the athletic training efforts for the Huskies. He will also be the liaison working to continue the positive relationship between Michigan Tech and UP Health System. Larson will work with all Tech athletic programs and continue to be the primary athletic trainer for the hockey team. He will also serve as an instructor in the University's Kinesiology and Integrated Physiology Department.

The Minnesota native gained a Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from the University of North Dakota in 1999. He earned his Master's degree in Exercise Science at Northern Michigan University while serving as a graduate assistant athletic trainer from 2000-02. Larson also served as a teaching assistant and an approved clinical instructor at NMU.

A member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, Michigan Athletic Trainers' Society and the College Athletic Trainers' Society, Larson is also an instructor for the American Heart Association and KIP department at Michigan Tech.

Larson, an avid all-season fisherman, and his wife, LeAnn, reside in Chassell, Michigan, with their daughter Madalyn and sons Nolan and Cameron.
